Essaouira is a coastal city with beaches as far as the eye can see and counts among the "model destinations" for windsurfers, kitesurfers and surfers worldwide. The architecture of the old town is strongly influenced by Portuguese military and French and Berber culture. The impressive appearance of the city wall gives the city a mystic sublimity, whereas the center of Essaouira is blooming with light and magic: narrow alleys, white chalked houses, blue doors, peaceful squares, cosy cafés, stalls and workshops out of which the characteristic smell of Thuja wood escapes. The lively harbour, directly southeast of the Medina, is also full of impressions: the fishing nets are spread on the pier, the boats unload their catches, craftsmen build traditional wooden boats and roast seafood on grills. In Essaouira the atmosphere is truly unique and easygoing.

Villa Quieta (VQ)
Location:
Villa Quieta is conveniently located in a quiet residential neighbourhood, only 150 m away from the beach and our Club Mistral Center.
Amenities and facilities:
As the name implies, Villa Quieta is a friendly and family run hotel, offering you peace and quiet in a convenient location to the beach. The formerly large family mansion has been turned into a unique, comfortable hotel. The lavish décor and typical Moroccan furnishings are a dream of 1001 nights. The ostentatious lobby offers a cozy place for everyone. In the morning you will enjoy a rich and delicious breakfast in the likewise pompous breakfast hall. Free WiFi is available throughout the lobby and the breakfast room. The lush garden is a beautiful setting with swimming pool, sun terrace and lounge chaises. It is a great hideaway for families with children if the wind on the beach is too strong. The rooftop terrace offers magnificent views of the ocean and the port. Breakfast can also be served up here. Throughout the house you find cozy lounge areas, mostly with a small fireplace.
Rooms:
All rooms are individually and comfortably furnished. They are decorated with great love to details. The spacious double rooms are equipped with modern shower/WC and some with a balcony. They come with either one queen size bed or two single beds. Sea view rooms are available at an extra charge. The big quadruple rooms have one double bed and two single beds and are very suitable for families. The mini suites, both with ocean views, are a bit more spacious and comfortably furnished. For the more luxurious demand we recommend the royal suite, a very large room with comfortable bathroom, incl. separate shower and WC and a large Jacuzzi bath tub. This room also offers four beds. The family suite with garden view is offers two separate bedrooms and is the best option for families with 2 children. Both suites have a private patio where the breakfast can be served as well.
Our opinion:
Great accommodation. Thanks to the close proximity to our center perfect for surfers, non-surfers and families. In terms of prices not exactly a hot deal but definitely worth the money.
Riad Al Zahia (RIAD)
Location
Riad Al Zahia in Essaouira is truly one of the most charming places you will find in the heart of the Medina. It is conveniently located in a little alley, close to shops and restaurants. The beach is just a 5 minutes’ walk away. Our Club Mistral Center is outside the Medina and about 20 minutes away on foot.
Amenities and facilities
The Riad has a typical Moroccan structure with all rooms facing the courtyard. A fountain provides a very relaxing and comfortable atmosphere.
The cozy saloon with fireplace or the open lounge is a great place to enjoy the delicious sweet mint tea. Free WiFi is provided in all rooms. The large rooftop terrace with its 360º view over the medina and the ocean is the perfect spot to enjoy the breakfast, relax in the sun chairs during the day or enjoy the sunset over the Medina.
Rooms
The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated in different Moroccan styles. All guestrooms are equipped with one double bed (140 cm) or twin beds, shower/WC, heating and a sofa bed. Natural air conditioning is provided through the courtyard. There are also three 2-bedroom suites, each unit with one double and two twin beds - perfectly suitable for families. They are also furnished with Moroccan antiques. The suites have windows facing the medina (no view). Please note none of the rooms feature television, in order to maintain the peaceful atmosphere.
Only the traditional and modern style Honeymoon Suite Zahia offers satellite TV/DVD as well as a comfortable Hammam bathroom.
Our opinion
Very cozy accommodation and great service right in the heart of the medina. You can enjoy walking through the alleys at nights while taking in the Moroccan lifestyle. The right place for night owls, who enjoy a stroll along the beach to the Club Mistral Center in the mornings.

The spot in Essaouira
Essaouira is a perfect all round spot. All three sports – windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing – are offered all year. In addition, the spot is ideal for wave novices. The slightly descending, sandy bottom and a shallow water area near the shore enable a comfortable launch. During low tide the sea pulls back about 150 metres, which makes the way to the water edge longer. Other wave spots like Moulay and Sidi Kaouki (20 minutes drive) give variety and make sure that you never get bored! The centre organises excursions to the wave spots upon request. Even if the water temperate (17-20 °C) cannot be compared to the Carribean, Essaouira offers appealing conditions, ample space and an 80% wind guarantee.
Wind and waves
The wind blows sideshore from the right. Some days it is a bit gusty and turns slightly offshore at wind speeds of more than 7 Beaufort. Between June and August the thermal enforces the trade wind, creating more challenging conditions for kitesurfers. Downwind of the centre, the wave conditions are particularly great in spring and autumn (1-2 metres). Due to the strong wind, the waves are slightly smaller from mid June to August (0.5-1 metres). Beginners and speed surfers are in good hands further upwind of the bay.
The center
Since summer 2008 our center is located 300 metres further downwind, only around 20 minutes walk from the Medina (city centre). The new location has many advantages: the wind is much more constant as there is no wind shadow in this part of the bay and moreover the new center offers much more space and therefore storage facilities for wind- and kitesurfers. Our lessons for wind- and kitesurfing as well as surfing take place right in front of the center.
The restaurant and bar "Ocean Vagabound" next door takes care of hungry and thirsty surfers and offers sunbeds to relax on the terrace. In this way you will spend an exciting surfing day and be well provided for.
Kids
Kids are really welcome in Essaouira and will enjoy the Moroccan holidays with the three main activities, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing. We offer kids lesson with a maximum of 2 students every day per week. Lessons take place in the mornings as they offer lighter winds.
