Dakhla is a small town around 1000km south of Essaouira, located on a 48km long and 4km wide peninsula which stretches into the Atlantic Ocean, creating a huge lagoon.
The location of our brand new Club Mistral & Skyriders center is on the north-eastern coast of that peninsula.
The huge sandy lagoon provides fantastic conditions with constant winds throughout the whole year, flat water and more than enough space.
Beginners, professionals and everybody else will find kitesurfing at its best here. As an added bonus the other side of the peninsula offers perfect wave conditions which can be reached within no time by car.
Apart from kitesurfing there are many other activities which will make your stay an active and diverse one – at Club Mistral & Skyriders Dakhla you can be sure to have a fantastic holiday in an untouched environment far away from mass tourism.

Ocean Vagabond Dakhla
Location
Club Mistral & Skyriders Ocean Vagabond Dakhla is located at the northern end of a 40 km lagoon on the Dakhla peninsula. The city of Dakhla and the airport are about 28 km away. Depending on the tide the bungalows are located right on the water’s edge.
Amenities and facilities
Ocean Vagabond is a conglomeration of 20 bungalows, a restaurant and bar (serving alcohol) as well as our Club Mistral & Skyriders Center right on the water’s edge (at high tide). There is also a shop and a cozy chill-out corner. Even in this remote, desert environment you don’t have to survive without internet – WiFi is available for free. Valuables can be stored at the hotel safe. A laundry service is available at an extra charge.
Rooms
The wooden bungalows are about 25m² in size and rather spacious. They are bright and functionally furnished with three beds, closet and bathroom with shower/WC. Thanks to the double walls the bungalows stay warm even in the winter. Equipped with massive wood furniture the rooms provide a rather spartan, yet modern atmosphere and small accessories are set with great attention to detail. Each bungalow has a private terrace with large wooden chairs. The wind always comes from the back so the terrace is wind proofed and you can always relax in the wind shadow.
Please don't take your bath towel to the beach. You can purchase a beach towel at the boutique or simly bring your own towel.
YOUNGBLOOD CAMP
Since July 2011 Ocean Vagabond features eight Youngblood Bungalows, which are smaller with space for 2 people only. They have shared facilities (shower/WC) and no integrated bathroom like the standard ones. Thus they are perfect for families or small-budget surfers.
Ecological note
The Ocean Vagabond takes a leading role in terms of ecological compatibility and adapts perfectly the surrounding nature. The bungalows have been built with recycled wood from an old stable. Each bungalow has a solar panel on the roof as well as a warm water tank. Fresh water comes from a deep well, located 5 km away.
The complex has its own waste water facility, and the processed water will be used on the premise for irrigation. Furthermore, LED lights help to reduce energy.
Due to the water shortage in this remote destination and in consideration of the local people we ask all our guests to limit the use fresh water and energy.
Board basis
Full board – breakfast is served in buffet style, different snacks are available for lunch and in the evening you will have a choice of 2-3 meals. One bottle of water per room is provided free of charge for lunch and for dinner. Additional drinks are payable locally.
Excursions
Excursions to the wave spot, down winder with boat shuttle, City tour Dakhla etc. are available on the spot at 15 EUR each.
Our opinion:
A unique accommodation in a fantastic setting at the lagoon in the desert nature. Far away from civilization you will enjoy the tranquillity, the spot and the sport with like-minded Surfers.

The Spot
The spot is a 40km long and13 km wide lagoon, created by the peninsula of Dakhla which stretches into the Atlantic Ocean. Our center is located on the north-eastern coast of that lagoon. Thanks to the side-shore winds from the north, the water is completely flat and thus offers perfect conditions for practicing and learning, as well as freestyle and racing. Depending on high and low tide there is an up to 300 meter long shallow water area right in front of the center. After 5 minutes drive to the other side of the peninsula of Dakhla you reach fantastic wave spots, perfect for wave riding and surfing.
Wind & Waves
The wind blows constantly throughout the whole year. More than 320 days with more than 12 knots make Dakhla a pure pleasure. The main wind direction is north-easterly, so the wind blows side-shore from the right. Thanks to this the water inside the lagoon is flat close to the beach and gets a little bit choppier the farther you are away from the shore. At the wave spots on the other side of the peninsula the wind blows slightly side-onshore, and is normally a few knots weaker than inside the lagoon.
The Center
The brand new 300m² center includes a shop, a nice chill-out corner and plenty of equipment. It is located right next to the Ocean Vagabond restaurant, with an amazing view over the whole lagoon. From the center it is only a few steps to the water. The terrace of the center is protected from the wind, so that families and partners who don´t sail can comfortably stay on the beach and watch the action on the water from there. Showers, WC’s and changing rooms can also be found in the center.
